Analyses performed on the current economic crisis have been addressed by the various economic and social issues from an economic and financial crisis, especially focused on the analysis of its origins and its impact on international finance. In this paper we show a way to see the effects of this crisis can be a novelty compared to standard approaches.

Our goal is to analyze the impact of the crisis in the nonprofit sector, social economy and solidarity economy. The contents of this study is based on the results of a research project financed by the Banco de Santander. This project has allowed us meet one of the objectives for which it was born Solidarity Economy Chair is none other than studying, researching and promoting the solidarity economy as a model of economic development based on respect for the person with a sustainable development perspective and as a means of social cohesion.

In this sense it has tried to answer, from humanism to the problems generated by the crisis by putting people at the center of activities and combining the business logic, social and environmental issues so that we can make proposals that will enable us, at least soften the serious consequences that we are leading the current economic and financial situation.

To achieve these objectives we set out a comprehensive study to examine if indeed, as has been shown so far, the crisis has had the same impact in different parts of the world. For this purpose we have analyzed the facts and instruments at the national level as well as experiences and solutions from other countries, notably Britain, France, Italy, USA, Chile and the African area, thus a transnational approach characteristic of current economic scenario.

This approach has allowed us to obtain a comprehensive view of the impact of the crisis on sectors in difficulty, offering a contrast study results that will be very useful for economic and social actors.

Once the initial picture of before and now the crisis, both theoretical and practical level, it was considered necessary to know the impact of the crisis in institutions and companies based in different countries under study, taking samples at each of the countries analyzed to try to predict what the future of this industry.
